For anyone trying to follow
the twists and turns of drug and alcohol policy Daily Dose
provides an invaluable tool for understanding what is going
on in the public and academic debate. It is also great to
get a link from the site, as we do from time to time; it
means that what we’re saying is seen by many more than
would otherwise immediately see our point of view on any
given story.
Andrew Brown, Coordinator, Drug Education
Forum.
For the record I have been
working in the alcohol field for 25 years. Your service is
in my opinion the single most important information service
available. It has introduced worldwide, up-to-date information,
including clinical evidence in my field to the widest audience.
Commissioners can now have the same access to information
as clinicians, see the same questions being asked across
the globe and the many different answers that are being found.
For me the biggest benefit has been the times I have not
had to re invent the wheel, answer another question, find
more evidence or justify my clinical work because its already
been done, asked, reported, shown and described far better
than I could do it myself. The time that is saved everyday
by this “common knowledge” being available to
so many must be worth any financial and time commitment from
yourself. Thank you.
Nielsen Leahy, Clinical Nurse Specialist – Alcohol.
I am most grateful to the
Daily Dose for highlighting Alcohol Articles that I may have
missed. What I do appreciate - and indeed have requested – is
the actual reference so that I can get out the actual scientific
article ... It is a wonderful
service – but for the busy clinician the above does
give to me that which can save time – and therefore
Stress.

Medicine, A&E St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, W2

the ABC of Alcohol.
I am a long serving Drug
Squad officer in Strathclyde Police in Scotland. Daily Dose
has kept me informed on all issues surrounding controlled
drugs in both the enforcement and harm reduction arenas.
I have been re-educated by the information it provides and
it’s simply the best circulation available, thanks
to those who keep it up and running, it’s just simply
the business well done.
Detective Sergeant Kenny Simpson, Strathclyde
Police Drug Squad, Glasgow.
I find Daily Dose invaluable
- without it I would miss so much of the media reporting
on drugs and alcohol. It's also one of the few emails I
actually look forward to opening. Thanks very much for providing
such
a great service.
Charlie Lloyd, Principal Research Manager
- Drugs and Alcohol, Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
This being Thanksgiving
Day across the pond, one of the items I'm grateful for
is Daily Dose. Keep on keeping on. Nowhere else do I find
a
broader view in English. Thanks
Deirdre Drohan Forbes, Chair, Friends

We all know that the majority
of practitioners out there have huge case loads that are
followed with bundles of work. Without Daily Dose I think
it would be impossible to keep informed and up to date
about current research and legislation that is imperative
to our
field of ever evolving work and interventions. So well
done Daily Dose and a huge big thank you!
Drew Perkins, Alcohol Liaison Nurse,
Halton and St Helens Primary Care Trust.
I have been a long time
subscriber of Daily Dose both as a police officer specialising
in the drugs field and now as a private consultant. The
reference material I have obtained over the years to assist
in various
research projects has been excellent. Keep up the good
work and my best wishes for your continued success.

way to get

Just a quick thank you for all the very
useful & essential information that I have been priveliged
to receive via your web service over the years. If it were
not for your service, my professional development would have
been far less rapid and the services in which I have inputted
and helped deliver would not have served our service users
so well. In these tumultuous and challenging times, and the
current climate of financial, evidence based & politically
led services, good communication and lines of communicating
good information is vital. Daily Dose does this so brilliantly.
Thank you soooo much .
Tim Gunner, Specialist Practitioner -

me keep up to date with all the issues from around the world
and keeping me up to speed with new ventures. It is my first
port of call every morning!!
John Hutchinson, Substance misuse worker

I have been reading Daily Dose every day
now for over a year and every day there is something included
which is of interest to me. Many news sites have an agenda
or philosophy, however Daily Dose does not. What I find
unique about Daily Dose is its truely unbiased and balanced
approach
to news listings. If it makes a good read, then Daily Dose
will include it regardless of what standpoint the article
comes from. This I believe is what makes Daily Dose a unique
and top quality news service for the addiction field. Also
of great use is the regular release of annual reports and
statistics from around the world. A truly global and essential
addictions news service for service users and professionals
alike.
Ross JM. Voluntary prescription addiction

Nina Smith, Senior Policy Officer (Substance

My role involves publishing a quarterly
magazine - The Hep C Review - for people affected by hepatitis
C - many of whom are dealing with AOD problems. Daily Dose
allows me to keep up to date with the sector and provides
a wealth of valuable and interesting articles for my magazine.
DD is a capacity-building initiative that should be applauded
for the support it provides to the thousands of AOD workers
across the globe who subscribe and pass on DD postings.

Thanks so much for this service! I am forever
finding useful publications which lead me to other valuable
websites. There is no equivalent of Daily Dose in other fields
in which we work (mental health/sexual health/youth health)
but it regularly points us in the direction of relevant material
in those areas too which is fantastic.
Dr. Niamh Fitzgerald, Director, Create Consultancy.

find out what is going on, not only in England but all over
the
world.
This is a fabulous website, keep up the

Charlotte, NCDT, In-Volve, London.
This is an invaluable service, particularly
to those of us in the US who have traditionally had to rely
largely on our own efforts or on the "clearinghouse"
run by the Federal government which lists only publications
favorable to US drug policies. Thanks for keeping me in touch
with how the rest of the world thinks!

Daily Dose an essential tool in keeping up to date in this
field. Daily Dose does a great job in making available worldwide

onto participants on training courses where substance misuse
is a factor. Keep up the good work.

I can add to the clamour of support for
your bulletin. Working as a GP with Addaction and with the
local PCT as a Clinical Governance lead mandates "fast
and dirty" education . I can speed read your simple linear
format and inroductory paras. Keep up the good work.
Dave Young
I have received Daily Dose for over eighteen
months ever since a colleague put me on to you. We are both
police officers who work in schools, delivering amongst other
things drug and alcohol lessons. The variety of information
available in one place for our use is a great benefit to us.
Being able to source so much information from not just the
UK but worldwide, when young people have so many questions
and issues allows us to address these. Keep up the good work.
Huw Thomas
I have been using your Daily Dose service

I have been receiving DD for about a year
now and find it invaluable, I'm a service user who has just
start on the long road to recovery and find the information
in your mag to be of great help in understanding the drug's
field and the state of play at the moment. I also want to
train in the substance misuse field and it has help me greatly
in that too. It's also just a great read.
Tony Lee, Service user from London, England
"I find that your service is fantastic.
It is the exact compilation that both practitioners and academics
need! Thank you."
John Wendt, University of St. Thomas
"Your bulletins have introduced me
to some interesting new sources of information. I train on
the RCGP Certificate in Addictions and have encouraged all
my mentor group of 15 (GPs, pharmacists, nurses and expert
patients) to subscribe as well. We have used some of the bulletins
to brainstorm and debate current issues in the master classes,
to good effect. Well done Daily Dose, keep up the good work."
David Davies
"Once in a while we need to recognize

"Keep up the good work and let us
see this window into the world of Drugs and Drug Policy across
the globe. We deserve to have the right to make informed judgments
and decisions in these and other matters and DD is an important
resource in maintaining democratic processes in regard to
these important issues."
Gary Clarke
"Daily Dose and the substance misuse
website are truly valuable resources which provide a means
for Addaction's 500 staff to keep abreast of substance misuse
issues and how they are reported in the UK and internationally.
They have saved us money and, importantly, time.
We keep our central support infrastructure
lean and effective in a voluntary treatment provider sector
which must be accountable and cost effective, and where the
vast majority of money raised and contracts won, must be spent
on delivering excellent front line services to the client.
Having these resources at our fingertips has supported our
work, saved us on media and research bills, and also helped
us to improve internal communications."
Rosie Brocklehurst, Addaction
"The DD is such a great way to reach
the huge audience we need."
Katie Burrell, Adfam, UK
"Several of us get Daily Dose and
believe it is a fantastic service. Our thanks and congratulations."
Julian Coe, Altrix Healthcare, UK
"Good coverage, broad band of issues
and invaluable to my need to stay ahead of the trends."
Rick Rutkowski, Drugscope
"Daily Dose has contributed significantly
to the work of our agency, by generating an enthusiasm for
a "new" information medium that has informed us
and our service delivery. It has provided us with a fresh
outlook and a gateway to information and resources. Staff
have found practice and policy considerations that have directly
integrated themselves into our daily work."
Wulf Livingstone, CAIS, UK
"I read with amazement (Dailydose
26/8/03) about lack of funding for the site. I would just
like to say I really find the information on the site is really
interesting and it gives us a chance to see what is happening
on the other side of the world. It also gives us an idea of
any new initiatives worldwide - great site - keep it up."
Michael Scott, Next Step Specialist Drug
& Alcohol Service, Perth, West Australia
"I have been using your Daily Dose
service for many months and find it an invaluable source of
information - it is one of the first things I check when I
arrive at my desk each morning."
Tim Dolan, Children & Families Alcohol
& Drugs Service, London, UK
"You do a terrific job. Every morning
when I come into work I check out the latest DD to see what
has been happening in the rest of the anti-doping world. As
you can understand, we are a little isolated down here and
your website is a great way to keep in touch."
Jayne Kernohan, New Zealand Sports Drug Agency
"I've been receiving Daily Dose, it's
great. I'm training as a probation officer so it is very useful
in helping me to understand lots of issues. One of my daughters
is training as a sports teacher and also uses this information.
My other daughter has also used it to find 'stuff' out, as
she knows lots of young people who experiment, and has used
the site to 'arm' herself."
