How To Use a Hair Mask In The Shower

There’s just not enough time in a day, and that’s why figuring out how to accomplish two tasks simultaneously is always a good thing. Think of how much time you can save by showering and doing your hair mask treatment at the same time. It varies, but every minute counts! In this article, we’ll tell you how to use your hair mask in the shower so you can be more efficient with your time.

Instructions for Using a Hair Mask in the Shower

Using your hair mask in the shower is easier than you think, and you’ll be a believer by the end of this article. Here are the steps you should follow to get it done.

  1. Grab your hair mask and put it near your shower. You don’t want to have to get out of the shower to get it later.
  2. Shampoo your hair to remove dirt and buildup. Never skip this step, as dirt on the hair's surface can inhibit the absorption of the hair mask’s ingredients. Be sure that you massage the shampoo throughout your hair so that no strand is missed. Rinse all of the shampoo away and move on to the next step.
  3. Use your hands to squeeze out the excess moisture from your hair.
  4. Apply your hair mask next. Focus on the mid-lengths and ends if you have straight or wavy hair. If you have curly hair, feel free to apply the hair mask to your roots, mid-lengths, and ends.
  5. Use a wide-tooth comb/shower comb to spread the hair mask throughout your hair. Apply more of the hair mask if you missed any spots.
  6. Allow the hair mask to sit on your hair while you wash your body. Most hair masks only need 5 minutes or so to do their work. If you want to leave your hair mask on longer, do it on a day where you need to shave or exfoliate your body. Use your time however you’d like.
  7. Once you’re done washing up, rinse the hair mask out and get on with your day!

For a deeper moisturizing session, put on a shower cap or processing cap while your hair mask is processing. The shower cap will trap the heat from your head, opening your hair cuticles and allowing for deeper hair mask penetration.

Tips for Using a Hair Mask in the Shower

In addition to the instructions above, check out the below tips to make the process even easier.

  • Be careful of the temperature of water you use. Hot showers are fine in moderation, but when it comes to rinsing your hair, the water temperature should never be too high. Hot water blasts open your hair cuticles and can dry your hair out in a hurry. So, set the water temperature to lukewarm or even cool anytime it’ll come in contact with your hair.
  • Allow enough time for the hair mask to penetrate your hair. In most cases, it will take five or more minutes for the mask to do its work.
  • Skip your regular conditioner. When you use a hair mask, you don’t have to condition your hair afterward. The hair mask takes the place of your regular rinse-out conditioner.

As you can see, using your hair mask in the shower is pretty straightforward. Just let your hair mask sit while you clean yourself up. We hope that this article has illuminated the process for you.
