How Do I Make My Hair Grow Faster?

If you have more long hair dreams than you’d like to admit, it’s time to change your hair routine. Many of us try remedy after remedy to no avail, but long hair is within reach. There are several things you can do to achieve your long hair dreams. In this article, we’ll give you all the tools you need to get your hair to grow faster.

Facts About Hair Growth Speed

Before we get into the hair growth tips, you should be aware that no hair product on Earth can increase your hair growth rate. According to the Trichological Society, your hair’s growth rate is determined by the following:

  • Genetics
  • Age
  • Hormones
  • Gender

If your hair is already growing at its normal rate, there is nothing you can do to speed it up any further. But if your hair is growing slower than it has in the past, there may be steps that you can take to make your hair grow faster.

How to Speed Up Hair Growth

If you sense that your hair is growing at a slower rate than usual, there are a couple of things that you should evaluate.

Your Diet

If you are deficient in specific vitamins, like zinc and vitamin B, your hair growth rate may decline. Also, if you suffer from anorexia or anemia, this could slow your hair growth. Taking a multivitamin may help remedy a slight nutritional deficiency, but a doctor can give you a true diagnosis and treatment plan.

Your Hormonal Health

During menopause, it’s normal to experience hair growth changes. But if you have a condition like thyroid disease or polycystic ovaries, medical intervention may be required. Once these conditions are under control, you may see an increase in your hair growth.

How to Retain Length

Unhealthy, dry hair breaks off, sometimes faster than your hair grows- this can make it seem like your hair isn’t growing quickly. The key to long hair is length retention, which means reducing breakage for longer hair.

Use Moisturizing Products that Fit Your Hair Type

To retain length, your hair must be adequately moisturized. Use the following products to maximize length retention.

  • Shampoo. Use a gentle sulfate-free shampoo so that your hair won’t be stripped of moisture. This is especially important for people who have type 3 or type 4 hair.
  • Conditioner. Use a sulfate-free conditioner after washing your hair. Choose one that has moisturizing ingredients to replenish lost moisture during your shampoo session.
  • Deep Conditioner - For super dry strands, type 3 and 4 hair especially, a deep conditioner will be necessary for length retention. If you have type 1 or 2 hair and it’s not dry, you can skip the deep conditioner.
  • Leave-in conditioner - For parched hair, regardless of your hair type, another layer of moisture may be needed in the form of a leave-in.

Also, make sure that your ends are trimmed and that you don’t overmanipulate your hair with excessive styling. Outside of routine hair maintenance, the more you leave your hair alone, the better off it will be.

We hope that this article helps you as you seek out information about speeding up your hair growth.
