What Helps Extremely Knotty Hair?
Knotty hair is a real pain! It makes styling sessions frustrating and increases the chance of split ends and breakage from problematic detangling sessions. If you are someone who deals with extremely knotty hair, we’re sure that you’d do anything to find help. Luckily, you don’t have to look any further. In this article, we’ll tell you about several things that can help you put tangly hair in the past.
Using Detanglers
The best thing you can do to remedy knotty hair is to use a detangling product. Detanglers are specifically formulated to loosen up knots and tangles to make them easier to remove. You can find tons of detanglers at department stores, beauty supply stores, and online. Top-quality detanglers contain natural oils, emollients, and other slippery ingredients that make your hair strands more pliable, enabling the comb to glide effortlessly through your strands.
Detangling Your Hair Wet
Most people detangle their hair while it’s dry and that may work for minor tangles. But for extreme tangles, you should wet your hair down and apply a detangling product. What we like most about wet detangling is that it’s convenient. You can use a shower brush to detangle your hair in the shower after you apply your conditioner. Once your hair is detangled, rinse out the conditioner and proceed with the rest of your styling routine.
For this to work, make sure that the conditioner you use feels slippery on your hair. If it doesn’t, wet detangling could cause more harm than good.
Deep Conditioning Treatments
Damaged hair tangles much more than healthy hair does, and here’s why. When hair is damaged, the cuticles no longer lay flat – they raise up, and this makes your strands more likely to get intertwined and tangled. To prevent further cuticle damage and knots, you should first cut off the damaged part of your hair (as much as you can) and then baby your hair to the max! Deep condition it every week with a moisturizing deep conditioner to smooth your hair cuticles and significantly reduce tangles.
Try Protective Styles
If you rarely wear your hair in a protective style, this could be a big reason why you’re dealing with knotty hair. When you wear your hair out, it moves around and collects dust, which causes tangles. But if you wear your hair up and tucked out of the way, it won’t be able to move around so freely, and you’ll notice a vast reduction in tangles. A few protective styles that you should consider are space buns, high buns, Dutch braids, or a single french braid.
Note: Be sure to detangle your hair before you put it in any protective style. Doing so will simplify the styling process and ensure that your hair is tangle-free after taking down the protective style.
Well, there you have it - several remedies that help with extremely knotty hair. We encourage you to try these tips at home to see if they work for you; we’ve got a feeling they will!
